Akamai Technologies is seeking a Platform Operations Engineer to champion change safety and optimize deployment workflows. You will troubleshoot complex issues, improve tools and processes, and collaborate across teams to ensure safe, scalable changes on a global network.
This role is based in Cambridge, MA, with a 4:30pm–12:30am EST schedule. Candidates should have a Bachelor's in a related field, strong Linux/Unix experience, knowledge of SQL and scripting, and familiarity with TCP/IP, WAN,

Job description
The Change Safety Deployment team in Global Performance and Operations (GPO) Solutions focuses on deploying large-scale changes to our numerous networks safely, while optimizing and integrating change safety into GPO's numerous workflows. The team is devoted to solving the toughest technical challenges while implementing changes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
As a Platform Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for change safety in Operations, improving and streamlining existing processes and procedures while being a point person for issues and questions. This role will also participate in the incident reduction initiative and long-term troubleshooting of customer-facing issues triggered by a change on the deployed network.
- Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues in area of specialty

- Improving tools, alerts, documentations, and procedures in favor of change safety
- Maintaining positive relationships across the teams
- Collaborating with our global Change Safety Optimization team to maintain consistent workflows across the group
- Working 4:30pm - 12:30am Eastern Standard Time on Monday through Friday in the Cambridge, Massachusetts office
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant related technical field or its equivalent
- Possess experience of administering, monitoring and resolving issues in a high availability platform environment
- Demonstrate experience of Linux/Unix system and an understanding of SQL and Scripting languages
- Be experienced in network technologies and internet protocols such as TCP/IP, WAN and DNS
- Be a team player, able to collaborate, prioritize, and solve problems in an ever-changing environment
- Have excellent communication and written skills to articulate technical information to internal teams and customers
- Be required to undergo or possess and maintain a successfully adjudicated USG Tier 3 background investigation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $54,600 - $113,400/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
