OpenAI's Applied Foundations team is seeking a software engineer to help defend our platform against abuse, fraud, and misuse while maintaining user trust.

You'll work with the engineering organization to design and implement backend systems, production data pipelines, and tooling to detect adversarial behavior and prevent incidents.

The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration, and a mindful approach to safety in production.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building production backend services and data pipelines.
• Interest in AI safety and building defenses in production.
• Self-directed, collaborative, and willing to own problems end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance systems to detect and prevent abuse across platforms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to protect users without harming experience.
• Assist with active incidents and build new tooling and infrastructure.
• Create tooling to accelerate workflows only when off-the-shelf solutions fall short.
