Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is seeking a Platform Engineer to drive technical leadership across the product configuration, quoting, and data distribution ecosystem. You will partner with product teams, architects, and security to design scalable, integrated solutions that align with Wellmark standards.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in development/infra/architecture, hands-on experience with AWS and modern web stacks (Angular, Node.js, TypeScript), and strong leadership and communication

Job Description

This role will partner with product team members and other engineers in support of the Market Solutions and Large Group Sell and Renew product teams, which are focused on improving the product development and quoting lifecycle as well as making the experience of doing business with Wellmark as seamless, efficient, and accurate as possible.

As a Platform Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the technology ecosystem supporting product and benefit configuration, quoting, document generation, and the distribution of shared product and benefit information to downstream systems. You will provide system-level technical leadership and have accountability for this highly integrated technology ecosystem. You will partner closely with Solution Architects, Product Managers, business stakeholders, Security, Infrastructure, other shared services and engineering teams throughout solution shaping and technical planning. You will help translate logical architecture into implementable designs, define integration strategies and physical design patterns, assess infrastructure and operational impacts, and ensure dependencies and risks are understood before PI execution. You will play a key role in ensuring these capabilities work together effectively, meet evolving business needs, and align with Wellmark technology and architecture standards.

Qualifications

Preferred

• Experience collaborating across an enterprise to ensure successful partners and relationships are built and nurtured.


• Demonstrated systems engineering experience designing, integrating, and supporting complex, integrated enterprise technology solutions.


• Proficient in developing and supporting modern web applications and services using Angular, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, or comparable frameworks and runtime technologies.


• Experience designing and supporting integrated solutions using AWS or a comparable cloud platform, including APIs, event-driven architectures, messaging, and shared data services.


• Experience designing and supporting solutions using relational and NoSQL databases, including technologies such as Amazon Aurora/SQL and MongoDB.


• Experience working within Agile product delivery or software engineering environments.


• Previous formal or informal leadership experience

Required

• Bachelor's Degree or direct and applicable work experience


• Minimum 7 years of experience including development experience, innovative solutions, infrastructure, architecture design and operations


• Minimum 4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, architecture design, operations


• Informal leadership, coaching, mentoring, architecture design, stakeholder consulting, problem solving and strong communication skills.

Additional Information

• Lead the technical designs for highly integrated complex application platforms to optimize security, information leverage and reuse, integration, performance, and availability and ensure solutions developed adhere and align to the architecture standards.


• Consult with Architects and project teams in the creation and documentation of design deliverables for application platforms and collaborate on effective technology solutions.


• May oversee and lead planning, developing and estimating of technical solutions and collaborate with other technical teams.


• Collaborate with Architects, business systems analyst, and stakeholders regarding process improvements.


• Consult with business stakeholders regarding technical planning to ensure architectures align with business expectations.


• Oversee, review and provide technical guidance on supported solutions, including vendor evaluations and integrations.


• Support architecture governance standards and provide guidance regarding IT policies, security and infrastructure.


• Provide training and mentorship regarding technical design and solution implementation.


• Build strong business relationships to ensure technical designs align with business needs.


• Develop and apply industry best practices and recommend emerging technologies.


• Other duties as assigned.
