Job summary

Helius runs its global edge network and high-performance services directly on bare metal. This Platform role joins our team to make that fleet faster to provision, safer to access, cheaper to run, and boring to deploy.

You’ll work across the foundation to automate server spin-up, standardize software builds, and execute on the security roadmap. This intermediate role offers growth as you own impactful projects within a remote-first, fast-learning environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering
• Hands-on bare metal experience provisioning and managing physical servers (PXE, IPMI/BMC, RAID, NICs)
• Deep Linux fundamentals: systemd, networking, storage, performance tuning
• Experience with configuration management and IaC (Ansible, Terraform, Salt, Nix)
• Solid scripting or programming ability in Python, Go, Bash, or similar
• A security mindset: think about access, blast radius, and secrets by default

Responsibilities

• Automate the server lifecycle end to end: provisioning, OS installs, configuration, hardware validation, and decommissioning
• Build and maintain the tooling engineers use to interact with the fleet
• Standardize how we build and deploy software to machines: CI pipelines, artifacts, deploy tooling, and rollbacks
• Execute security roadmap items: SSO-integrated access, jump hosts, secrets management, least-privilege access, audit trails
• Run cost analysis across the fleet and translate into recommendations
• Improve observability for the infrastructure and participate in on-call and incident response
• Write clear runbooks and docs for a remote team to operate what you build

About the Role

Helius runs its global edge network and high-performance services directly on bare metal. It's a deliberate choice for performance and cost, and it means the machines, the network, and the tooling that ties them together are ours to get right. This role joins our Platform team to make that fleet faster to provision, safer to access, cheaper to run, and boring to deploy to.

You’ll work across the foundation everything else at Helius depends on: automating how servers get spun up and configured, standardizing how software gets built and shipped to machines, and executing on our engineering security roadmap. This is an intermediate role with a lot of room to grow. We care more about ownership, intensity, and learning speed than about a perfect match on today's stack.

No crypto background is needed. If you've run serious infrastructure anywhere, we'll teach you the blockchain parts.

What You’ll Do

• Automate the server lifecycle end to end: provisioning, OS installs, configuration, hardware validation, and decommissioning

• Build and maintain the tooling engineers use to interact with the fleet, so nobody hand-configures a machine twice

• Standardize how we build and deploy software to machines: CI pipelines, artifacts, deploy tooling, and rollbacks

• Execute security roadmap items alongside our security lead: SSO-integrated access, jump hosts, secrets management, least-privilege access, and audit trails

• Run cost analysis across the fleet, including cost per workload, provider comparisons, and hardware refresh decisions, and turn it into recommendations

• Improve observability for the infrastructure you own, and take part in on-call and incident response

• Write clear runbooks and docs so the rest of a remote team can operate what you build

What We’re Looking For

• Extreme ownership: you treat the systems you touch as yours, see problems through to the fix, and automate yourself out of repetitive work rather than living with it. You work the way our Manifesto describes (fast, direct, low-ego, and accountable), and that matters to us more than any single item below.

• 3+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering

• Hands-on bare metal experience, such as provisioning and managing physical servers (PXE, IPMI/BMC, RAID, NICs), working with colo or dedicated-server providers, and debugging hardware versus software issues

• Deep Linux fundamentals, including systemd, networking, storage, and performance tuning

• Experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Salt, Nix)

• Solid scripting or programming ability in Python, Go, Bash, or similar

• A security mindset: you think about access, blast radius, and secrets by default, not as an afterthought

Nice to Have

• Rust experience, or interest in reading and debugging Rust services

• High-performance networking or low-latency systems experience

• Familiarity with ClickHouse, Prometheus, or Grafana

• Experience at a high-scale B2B infrastructure company
