Job summary

RTX is seeking a Platform Engineer to support the Missile Defense Sensors Software Department. The role emphasizes design, development, and testing of platform solutions in an Agile, collaborative environment with emphasis on containerization, IaC, and CI/CD practices.

The ideal candidate will be strong in platform engineering concepts, eager to learn, and able to work 100% onsite in Massachusetts on safety-critical, real-time systems.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field.
• Experience with software build deployments, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform).
• Experience in Agile Scrum or Kanban in a team-based environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

What You Will Do:

The Raytheon team is looking for a Platform Engineer to support the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Software (SW) Department. The MDS SW mission is to provide world-class Radar and Command and Control (C2) Software for our customers' wide array of Surveillance and Warning Systems. We align with the core Agile and DevSecOps principles of collaborative operation across the entire value stream, delivering high-frequency, high-quality deployments to our customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in platform engineering concepts, an eagerness to learn, the ability to work 100% onsite and collaboratively with a team, and an interest in complex, real-time, safety-critical systems.

The job location for this opportunity is in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, and test platform solutions in an agile, collaborative environment.
• Debug existing platforms and correct deployment or configuration issues.
• Provide specific input to platform design, including hardware/software trade-offs, modularity, use of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) components, and system-level requirements analysis.
• Implement recommendations for improving documentation, platform build processes, and deployment standards.
• Collaborate with software development teams to ensure seamless integration between platform solutions and application software.

What You Will Learn:

• The workings of Missile Defense Systems and/or Command and Control (C2) Systems.
• How to develop, maintain, and deploy platforms supporting large-scale, complex software solutions in an agile environment.
• Tools and best practices associated with DevSecOps, including Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) concepts, containerization, and Infrastructure as Code.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related (STEM) discipline.
• Experience in software build deployments, containerization methodologies (e.g., Docker/Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
• Experience developing and deploying solutions in a team-based development environment using the Agile Scrum or Kanban framework.
• Excellent communication, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with agile management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
• Familiarity with DevSecOps tools and platforms (e.g., Docker, Ansible Tower, Artifactory, GitHub/BitBucket).
• Knowledge of CI/CD concepts and tools for automating platform deployment pipelines.
• Experience contributing to a team environment for the purpose of developing creative solutions to complex technical problems.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with time-critical requirements.
• Ability to promote a culture of continuous learning, cross-team collaboration, and training.
