Supabase is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer - Compute to join our global engineering team on a full-time remote basis. You will own multi-region compute systems, scalable Kubernetes clusters, and infrastructure automation powering our PostgreSQL-backed cloud platform.

Design reliable distributed systems, develop custom Kubernetes controllers, manage AWS deployments, and implement IaC with Pulumi or Terraform.

Detailed Job Description:

As a Platform Engineer - Compute at Supabase, you will take full operational, tactical, and technical ownership of multi-region compute systems, scalable Kubernetes clusters, distributed database routing, and infrastructure automation. Your day-to-day responsibilities include designing and maintaining high-availability compute systems, building custom Kubernetes controllers, managing large-scale infrastructure on AWS, ensuring resilient networking across distributed nodes, operating PostgreSQL database infrastructure, and authoring Infrastructure as Code using Pulumi or Terraform. You will utilize your proactive troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills to resolve complex distributed systems bottlenecks under strict enterprise availability standards. Furthermore, you will manage application requirements, ensuring strict compliance with the 5+ years of cloud infrastructure and 3+ years of Kubernetes controller development requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, scale, and maintain highly available, multi-region compute systems serving millions of production databases.
• Develop and operate custom Kubernetes controllers, operators, and large-scale enterprise clusters across cloud providers.
• Architect resilient distributed systems, core networking topologies, and low-latency multi-region infrastructure.
• Manage and optimize PostgreSQL database instances, connection pooling, and underlying compute resource allocation.
• Build, maintain, and optimize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployment pipelines using Pulumi or Terraform.
• Participate actively in production on-call rotations, incident response, system triage, and root-cause post-mortem analyses.
• Collaborate cross-functional with security officers, developer experience squads, and core database engineering teams.
• Author meticulous technical documentation, operational runbooks, architecture diagrams, and system reliability standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong software engineering skills and coding proficiency in Go and TypeScript.
• Minimum of 5+ years of progressive professional experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, including hands-on expertise with AWS.
• Minimum of 3+ years of specialized experience building custom Kubernetes controllers and operating large-scale production clusters.
• Proven practical knowledge of distributed systems architecture, core networking principles, and multi-region infrastructure design.
• Working familiarity with PostgreSQL database administration and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Pulumi or Terraform.
• Demonstrated professional experience with production systems, on-call rotations, and incident response operations.
• Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities under high-pressure environments.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with strong remote collaboration and asynchronous teamwork abilities.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Hands-on professional experience with QEMU and KVM hypervisor virtualization technologies.
• Direct operational experience managing network-attached storage (NAS) and distributed storage architectures.
• Prior professional working experience in high-growth developer tool startups, cloud providers, or open-source infrastructure enterprises.
