OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY

Fox TV Stations (FOX Television Stations) owns and operates 29 full-power broadcast television stations across the U.S., including stations in 14 of the top 15 largest DMAs and duopolies in 11 DMAs, such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Of these, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. These stations produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news weekly, leveraging viewer, distributor, and advertiser demand for the network's content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Platform Development Lead offers technical challenges in building and enhancing backend services that support frontend teams across web, mobile, and connected TV platforms. This role involves leading a talented team, influencing strategic engineering directions, and advancing FOX's local news digital initiatives.

The team lead will oversee the platform development squad, support team members' growth, contribute to coding, and resolve technical challenges. Responsibilities include maintaining engineering quality, tracking team productivity, and aligning development pace with business goals.

You will gain a detailed understanding of FOX's systems and develop solutions to meet digital business objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, and maintain backend services with high quality standards.
• Establish and uphold best practices for software quality within the team.
• Gather requirements, document technical details, and prepare work plans.
• Advocate for solutions considering quality, performance, compatibility, and technical debt.
• Document design specifications using Confluence, including diagrams as needed.
• Create mock responses in Postman for parallel front-end development.
• Maintain backend health through code improvements and technical debt management.
• Provide technical leadership via peer reviews, coaching, and mentorship.
• Prepare documentation on system status, operations, and maintenance.
• Design, develop, and test backend services following industry standards.
• Support deployment processes for builds and releases.
• Identify and document opportunities for process and software improvements.
• Participate in sprint ceremonies, planning, and team discussions.
• Coordinate with delivery managers, QA, product managers, and internal teams to manage solutions from requirements to delivery.
• Manage technical risks and issues proactively.
• Address team issues promptly, especially personnel or non-engineering concerns.
• Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to ensure efficient operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Proficiency in Golang, including Goroutines, channels, and error handling.
• Experience with containerization, e.g., Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with developer tools such as Postman, Jira, Confluence, GitHub, Datadog.
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Experience leading development teams.
• Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively.

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Willingness to learn new technologies.
• Experience working with diverse engineering teams, including remote and vendor resources.
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
• Knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure management.
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and microservices.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and CloudFormation.
