Job summary

Humana is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to build a platform and API foundation supporting AI capabilities across CenterWell. You will design core backend services, secure by design patterns, and mentor teams across API, data, and frontend layers.

The role emphasizes architecture focus, service standards, and end-to-end ownership from API to production. Location flexible within designated IT hubs, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with backend and platform engineering.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python for API and service development.
• Experience building scalable REST or GraphQL APIs and secure design.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead development of core backend services, REST and GraphQL APIs, and service-to-service integrations.
• Establish patterns for authentication, authorization, rate limiting, PHI access control, and audit logging for HIPAA compliance.
• Define and implement AI integration patterns, including LLM routing, streaming responses, and tool orchestration.
• Build observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting for scalable operations.
• Contribute to product features end-to-end using TypeScript and Next.js.
