Job summary

Meyer Utility Structures is seeking a Plate (Steel) Buyer to source steel/aluminum plates for Clinton, Illinois and Tulsa, Oklahoma plants. You will negotiate with suppliers, manage inventory, ensure quality, and coordinate deliveries to meet production schedules across multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Minimum of 2 years of procurement experience.
  • Experience in steel purchasing preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate incoming movement of steel products and delivery services to ensure material availability and delivery when needed to meet production schedules.
  • Compile data on order volume, production schedules, and forecasts.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders for the procurement of goods, services, and supplies for customer-related business or internal use.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor inbound movement of materials from suppliers.
  • Determine material requirements and coordinate the efficient movement of materials with purchasing, production, and engineering.
  • Coordinate information and activities with other team members.
  • May coordinate or exchange information with third parties, vendors, or customers.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.

Meyer Utility Structures is searching for a Plate (Steel) Buyer for our Clinton, Illinois, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, plants. The plate buyer purchases metal plates (such as steel or aluminum) for the Meyer Clinton and Tulsa plants. In this role, you will source material, negotiate with suppliers, manage inventory levels, ensure quality standards, and coordinate deliveries to meet production schedules. Also, the buyer will often work closely with engineering, logistics, material planners, and production staff to ensure cost-effective and timely material acquisition.

What You’ll Do:

What You’ll Need:

  • Strong written and verbal communication in English
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field or equivalent experience, and at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrate successful experience staying organized while multitasking
  • Minimum of 2 years of procurement experience (preferred)
  • Experience in steel purchasing (preferred)
  • A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
