Applied Materials, Inc. is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead and execute projects for plasma etch systems, blending sensor, algorithm and control modules from concept through deployment.

You will develop and optimize automation and control algorithms for RF power, PVT, flow and temperature, evaluate sensor gaps, and collaborate with Field, Product, Software and Systems teams to deliver integrated solutions. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or Masters with experience) in Engineering or Physics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in RF/DC Plasma Systems; Plasma Sensing; Algorithm Development.
  • 3-5 years of experience in semiconductor equipment industry.
  • Data Analysis using MATLAB, Python or similar.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary R&D environment: SW/HW/Algo.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication to influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute systems engineering projects with sensor, algorithm and control modules for plasma etch systems—from concept to deployment.

  • Identify and address gaps in sensor technologies for diagnosing equipment performance in production.

  • Collaborate with Field, Marketing, Product, Applications, Software and Systems teams to gather requirements and integrate solutions.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute systems engineering projects with a mix of sensor; algorithm and control system modules for plasma etch systems - from concept to production deployment
  • Develop and optimize algorithms for automation and advanced control of complex etch subsystems: Radio Frequency (RF) Power, Pulsed Voltage (PVT), Flow and Temperature
  • Identify and address gaps in sensor technologies necessary to diagnose equipment performance in production environment
  • Build and qualify prototypes of new designs, or procure entire subsystems from outsourced suppliers and test for compliance with detailed specifications
  • Design and implement solutions that effectively combine classical mathematical algorithms with deep learning approaches to solve productivity challenges
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Field, Marketing, Product, Applications, Software, and Systems teams to gather requirements and integrate sensor and control system solutions
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD (or Masters w/ experience) in Engineering or Physics
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of following disciplines: RF/DC Plasma Systems; Plasma Sensing; Algorithm Development
  • 3-5 years of experience in semiconductor equipment industry
  • Data Analysis skills using MATLAB, Python or similar
  • Experience in multidisciplinary R&D environment: SW/HW/ Algo
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication to influence range of stakeholders

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable. For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
