Thea Energy in New Jersey is seeking an Experimental Plasma Physicist to design, deploy, and operate advanced plasma diagnostics. You will mentor students and researchers, analyze multi-diagnostic data with Python, MATLAB, or Julia, and help publish results at major conferences. The role demands a Ph.D.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Plasma Physics, Fusion Science, Applied Physics, or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in a plasma physics laboratory setting.
  • Experience developing/operating plasma diagnostics (spectroscopy, probes, imaging).
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or Julia for data analysis.
  • Strong communication and cross-institutional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and calibrate advanced plasma diagnostics for Eos stellarator configurations.
  • Oversee vacuum system integration, high-magnetic-field hardware, and signal processing chains.
  • Maintain and upgrade diagnostic hardware for high-resolution data capture during experiments.
  • Plan and execute experimental campaigns on fast-ion transport and confinement physics.
  • Analyze multi-diagnostic datasets to extract parameters like density and velocity distributions.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions, national labs, and international consortia.
  • Co-author journal articles and present findings at major conferences.
  • Mentor graduate students and junior researchers in lab safety, protocols, and data analysis pipelines.
