Job summary

TEMPO Employment Services is seeking a Plant Utility Technician for a local food manufacturing facility in Mars Hill. The role supports safe and reliable operation of water, gas, air, steam, and related utility systems.

You will work with maintenance and operations to perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, assist with installations and startups, and support continuous improvement efforts in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical experience preferred.
• Associate degree or two-year technical certificate preferred.
• 1+ year of industrial maintenance experience preferred; steam, refrigeration, or utility systems a plus.
• Boiler Operator license or related certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to read mechanical/electrical schematics is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water, gas, air, steam, and other utility systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance as directed.
• Assist with equipment repairs, installations, and startups.
• Troubleshoot utility systems with maintenance and operations teams.
• Document work using computerized maintenance systems.

Pay: $23.97-$30.60/hour

Job Description:
TEMPO Employment Services is seeking a Plant Utility Technician to join a local food manufacturing facility in Mars Hill. This position supports the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of facility water, gas, air, steam, and related utility systems.

The Plant Utility Technician will work closely with maintenance and operations teams to perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, assist with installations and startups, and support continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the safe operation and maintenance of water, gas, air, steam, and utility systems
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance as directed
• Assist experienced maintenance personnel with equipment repairs and maintenance projects
• Troubleshoot utility and mechanical systems
• Assist with equipment installation, adjustments, and startups
• Maintain accurate maintenance and regulatory records
• Use computerized maintenance systems to document work and equipment information
• Participate in reliability and root-cause analysis activities
• Assist with maintaining spare parts and equipment inventories
• Follow established maintenance procedures and quality standards
• Follow all safety, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Communicate effectively with maintenance, operations, and other team members
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate degree, two-year technical certificate, or equivalent technical experience preferred
• At least 1 year of industrial experience preferred, particularly with steam, refrigeration, or utility systems
• Boiler Operator Assistant license or boiler/ammonia-related certification preferred, but not required
• Ability to read and understand mechanical, piping, and electrical schematics preferred
• Experience with computerized maintenance systems preferred
• Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with team members at all levels
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
• Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 60 pounds
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
• Ability to work in a noisy environment with temperatures ranging from hot to cold
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed
