Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering professional to join our Engineering team in leading maintenance and reliability initiatives at our facility. You will oversee preventive maintenance programs, manage schedules, supervise the parts storeroom, and drive cost-effective practices and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate has a 4-year engineering degree, 5+ years in maintenance or reliability, and at least 2 years of leadership experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related field required.
• 5+ years of relevant experience; 2+ years in team management or project leadership.
• Proven experience in plant maintenance or reliability roles and understanding of equipment and systems.
• Experience managing maintenance programs, schedules, and budgets.
• Strong analytical skills with KPI analysis; excellent leadership and communication abilities.

• Reliability Oversight: Ensure reliability and performance of all plant equipment and systems.
• Preventative Maintenance: Oversee and manage preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime.
• Maintenance Scheduling: Manage scheduling of maintenance employees and planners.
• Parts Management: Supervise parts storeroom, ensure adequate inventory and availability.

• Budget Management: Manage maintenance department budget and resource allocation.
• Project Management: Lead large maintenance and repair projects within time and budget.

As part of our Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our plant equipment and systems. This position involves overseeing the preventative maintenance program, managing maintenance schedules, and leading key maintenance initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Reliability Oversight: Ensure the reliability and performance of all plant equipment and systems.
• Preventative Maintenance: Oversee and manage the preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and maximize equipment lifespan.
• Maintenance Scheduling: Manage the scheduling of maintenance employees and oversee plant maintenance schedulers/planners.
• Parts Management: Supervise the parts storeroom, ensuring adequate inventory and timely availability of parts.
• Training Programs: Develop and implement maintenance training programs for staff to enhance skills and efficiency.
• Budget Management: Manage the maintenance department budget, ensuring cost-effective practices and resource allocation.
• Project Management: Lead and oversee large maintenance and repair projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
• Performance Metrics: Monitor and analyze department KPIs such as downtime, parts usage, and mean time between failures (MTBF) to drive continuous improvement.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

• Bachelor's degree for an accredited four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field and 5+ years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
• 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
• Proven experience in a plant maintenance or reliability role, with a strong understanding of equipment and systems.
• Experience in managing maintenance programs, schedules, and budgets.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with performance metrics and KPI analysis.
• Excellent leadership and supervisory abilities, with experience in managing a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

• Demonstrated computer skills, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and company software packages.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
