Job summary

Texas Materials, a CRH company, seeks a Plant Operator to oversee daily asphalt plant operations, monitor controls, and ensure safe, efficient production. You will coordinate material flow and maintain equipment to meet production goals and quality standards.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and 2-3 years of related experience, plus knowledge of heavy equipment. This role requires willingness to travel and work nights/weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor plant controls to regulate asphalt production and material flow.
  • Ensure production meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational or mechanical issues.
  • Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with loaders, drivers, and QC personnel to meet daily schedules.
  • Enforce safety regulations and company policies.
  • Assist with general plant housekeeping and upkeep.

Position Overview.

The Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the asphalt plant to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role involves monitoring plant systems, coordinating materials flow, performing adjustments, and maintaining equipment to meet production goals and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor plant controls to regulate material flow and asphalt production.
  • Ensure production meets required quality standards and specifications.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational or mechanical issues as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with loader operators, truck drivers, and quality control personnel to meet daily schedules.
  • Enforce and follow all company, environmental and safety regulations.
  • Assist with general plant housekeeping and upkeep.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree GED is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of previous related experience.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Previous knowledge of heavy equipment preferred.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations

  • Must be able to exert up to 10-20 lbs. constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally.
Work Environment
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud but is typically moderate
