Plant Operator

Redfield Energy, LLC – Redfield, SD

Responsibilities
  • The Plant Operator is responsible for the operation of all plant processing equipment in a highly automated chemical facility, maintaining knowledge of the process flow, computerized equipment, and hazards associated with the process.
  • Maintain and execute standard operating procedures, ensuring proper responses during normal and abnormal operating situations.
  • Communicate process events to supervisors and the on‑coming shift team members.
  • Work a 12‑hour shift schedule, adapt to mandatory overtime and call‑in requirements as directed by management.
  • Learn and operate the Distribution Control System (DCS) and other plant processes.
  • Follow all established biorefinery policies and procedures.
  • Collect and test quality control samples on all product streams, interpret QA/QC results, and take action when required.
  • Ensure timely and accurate daily documentation of all process information and enter sample results into PI.
  • Maintain a clean facility and follow the sanitation schedule, completing all assigned tasks.
  • Occasionally assist the maintenance department with routine tasks such as assembling and disassembling equipment, rigging, and cleaning filters.
  • May load and unload bulk chemical trucks while maintaining a high level of safety and customer service.
  • May load trucks with product (modified distillers, syrup, corn oil, etc.) using meters or scales to ensure timely delivery of product.
  • Understand and follow plant operating procedures for start‑up, shut‑down, temporary, and emergency operations.
  • Utilize process data, trend analysis, and training to monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to process conditions to optimize plant operation.
  • Attend and participate in shift exchange meetings at the beginning and end of shift with on‑coming/outgoing team members to discuss previous shift events and current process status.
  • Participate in all health, safety, and environmental programs; maintain self‑awareness of safety issues and report any concerns immediately to the EH&S department.
  • Perform equipment preparation and lockout for maintenance activities, including line break and confined space entry.
  • Create service requests using MP2 to inform maintenance staff of identified equipment repairs needed.
  • Provide knowledge sharing and training to other team members.
  • Operate machinery including, but not limited to, forklift, manlift, and front‑end loader.
  • Notify management of environmental, quality, and production concerns, problems, and opportunities.
  • Perform all tasks associated with Feed Safety/Quality, as assigned or as needed, to meet internal and external requirements for safe, quality feed products.
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Work in an honest and ethical manner; maintain confidentiality on all business‑related matters.
  • Physically report to work on time at the assigned location and maintain a reliable attendance record.
  • Complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner, exhibiting conscientiousness toward assignments.
  • Maintain a teamwork environment with other departments at all times.
  • Champion Redfield Energy in the community.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and a friendly atmosphere.
  • Other duties as assigned.
