Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company in the United States is seeking an Asphalt-Plant / Crusher Operator to operate processing equipment with skill and precision to maximize production and ensure product quality. This role involves monitoring equipment, adjusting settings, and supporting plant operations in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires attention to detail, ability to perform repetitive tasks, and basic mechanical aptitude; field experience in construction/mining is preferred.

Qualifications

• Mechanical skills preferred.

• Strong working knowledge of process control systems.
• Must be mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot problems in relation to plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate processing plant and auxiliary units.
• Observe control panel gauges, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications.
• Maintain switch house equipment.
• Assist with plant inspections and repair and maintenance of plant equipment as required.
• Lubricate and may perform some repair work to crusher system.
• Perform housekeeping duties around crusher area, including shoveling, remove spilled aggregate material, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Essential Functions

• May be designated according to type of plant operated as Asphalt-Plant Operator (construction) or according to machine function as Crusher Operator (concrete prod.; construction).
• Operates processing plant and auxiliary units.
• Observes control panel gauges, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications.
• Maintains switch house equipment.
• Assists with plant inspections and repair and maintenance of plant equipment as required.
• Lubricates and may perform some repair work to crusher system.
• Performs housekeeping duties around crusher area, including shoveling. remove spilled aggregate material, etc.

Education

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate desired.

Experience

• Experience in the construction/mining/concrete industry preferred
• Preferred experience in operating plant crusher.
• Mechanical repair skills preferred

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Mechanical skills preferred.
• Must be able to perform repetitive work on a continuous basis.
• Must have strong working knowledge of process control systems.
• Must be mechanically inclined and have ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems in relation to plant operations.
• Must have ability to effectively communicate in English, including reading and writing related to computer.

Other Requirements

• Should be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb vertical access ladders, reach, shovel, squat, crawl or pull, push, as well as, bend and lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions of heat and cold.
• May be subject to wearing a respirator.
• Must be able to work required overtime which may include hours of up to or beyond scheduled hours.

Salary

The salary is prescribed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates will be placed according to union contract salary scale at $42.46 per hour.
