Job summary

Ochsner LSU Health is seeking a facility maintenance technician to maintain, operate, monitor, and repair central plant equipment across hospital and clinics. You will perform preventative maintenance, document activities, and respond to maintenance requests promptly.

The role requires a high school diploma, preferred associates in Operating Engineering, and valid 2nd Class Engineers Certificate; experience with water treatment, HVAC controls, and energy management systems is essential.

  • Current 2nd Class Engineers Certificate for Air Condition / Refrigeration (Orleans Parish) required.
  • Preferred: 2nd Class Engineers Certificate for Boilers & Air Condition.
  • Basic math and good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Properly answers phone and resolves requests by using name and identifying department.
  • Completes preventive maintenance and work requests promptly by using proper work order form.
  • Monitors and operates power plant equipment by visually inspecting and adjusting equipment to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Monitors, operates and troubleshoots engineering equipment and systems by following manufacturers’ recommended maintenance and operating parameters.
  • Operates, monitors and maintains Energy Management System by adjusting heating/cooling schedules as dictated by building loads.
  • Performs building rounds and equipment inspections by properly entering round sheet data and reporting problems to supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Job description

This job maintains, operates, monitors, repairs all utilities and related central plant equipment and responds to maintenance requests for assistance to hospital, clinic and supporting facilities. Maintains central plant in good, clean working condition maintains preventative maintenance (P.M.), and schedules and completes corrective maintenance to all equipment in a timely and professional manner actively documenting all activities and maintenance.

Education

Required - High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Preferred - Associates degree in Operating Engineering

Required - Experience with water treatment for heating and cooling systems in order to efficiently protect the water and steam piping and integrity. Experience using HVAC/Temperature controls, Energy Management Systems, Computer Operations in order to maintain proper building temperature comfort levels.

Certifications

Required - Current 2nd Class Engineers Certificate for Air Condition / Refrigeration - ONLY if working at a facility in Orleans Parish*

Preferred - Current 2nd Class Engineers Certificate for Boilers & Air Condition

Knowledge Skills And Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of Pneumatic tube system operation in order to repair and maintain associated equipment.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor under stressful conditions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
