Job summary

Cantex is seeking a Plant Operations Manager to oversee maintenance, life safety, and regulatory compliance across multiple Skilled Nursing Facilities in Texas. You will supervise maintenance teams, lead capital projects, and ensure building systems are safe and compliant.

The role requires 5+ years of healthcare facilities leadership, strong knowledge of NFPA, CMS, OSHA standards, and the ability to travel up to 75% with overnight stays. Reports to the VP of Plant Operations.

Qualifications

  • Must be available for 24/7 on-call support.
  • Minimum 5 years of healthcare maintenance leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Code, CMS, OSHA, NFPA and state regulations.
  • Ability to manage projects, budgets, vendors and maintenance teams.
  • HVAC skills preferred and beneficial.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and construction drawings.
  • Experience with emergency preparedness management.
  • Craftsmanship capabilities preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Willingness to travel extensively with overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and technical support to VP of Plant Operations and Maintenance Directors.
  • Oversee maintenance, building systems, and life safety compliance across multiple SNFs.
  • Ensure facilities are safe, efficient and regulatory-compliant.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response efforts.
  • Coordinate vendor management, contractor oversight and capital projects.
  • Assist with construction, renovation, and mechanical upgrades.
  • Conduct facility inspections and drive timely corrective actions.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs and adherence to standards.
  • Provide guidance to facility leadership and maintenance teams.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, CMS, OSHA and state licensure regulations.
  • Maintain documentation on maintenance, life safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and capital planning.

Job Summary

The Plant Operations Manager provides operational, technical, and regulatory support to the Vice President and Director of Plant Operations while overseeing maintenance, life safety, emergency preparedness, vendor management, and facility operations across multiple Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs). This role ensures all buildings, grounds, systems, and equipment are maintained in a safe, efficient, compliant, and resident‑centered manner.

The Plant Operations Manager serves as a key resource to facility leadership and Maintenance Directors by providing guidance, technical expertise, project oversight, and operational support to promote regulatory compliance, minimize disruptions, and protect organizational assets. Responsibilities include oversight of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical systems, carpentry, general building maintenance, construction projects, preventive maintenance programs, and life safety compliance.

This position requires strong knowledge of NFPA, CMS, OSHA, and state licensure regulations, along with the ability to foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain documentation related to maintenance, life safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and capital planing
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and customer service
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Ability to walk facilities, climb ladders, inspect equipment, access rooftops/mechanical rooms, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to respond to facility emergencies outside normal business hours
  • Frequent travel between assigned facilities (up to 75% travel); valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English via phone, email, and in‑person interactions
  • Ability to use a computer, phone, and related technology for extended periods
