Job summary

Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Plant Operations Manager for our Beaumont, Mississippi plywood facility. This greenfield operation will employ up to 250 employees and aims to operate safely, efficiently, and profitably while driving continuous improvement.

The role leads day-to-day manufacturing operations, focusing on reliability, process excellence, and cost management, with emphasis on teamwork and leadership development across departments.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in forestry, business, manufacturing, or related field required; company may support degree via educational assistance.
  • 5+ years of process manufacturing experience with direct supervisory experience.
  • 3–5 years of leadership across multiple departments in manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for positive teamwork.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment for safe, efficient plant operations.
  • Proven leadership to drive reliability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Drive development and execution of the plant operating plan in line with policy and objectives.
  • Support reliability maintenance and continuous improvement culture across the facility.
  • Monitor KPIs (budgets, productivity, inventories, safety, quality) for the plant.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets and forecasts.
  • Manage plant operations through supervisory/management staff.
  • Coach staff to achieve goals and develop future leaders.
  • Provide leadership to supervisors and drive cooperation among employees.
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed.
  • Oversee reliability maintenance processes and capital expenditures.
  • Maintain customer-focus for internal and external customers.
  • Establish consistent processes, standards, and regulatory compliance.

Job description

Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Plant Operations Manager for our Beaumont, Mississippi plywood facility. This is a greenfield operation that will employ up to 250 employees. The Plant Operations Manager will provide leadership for the day-to-day manufacturing operations by ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and profitably while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Purpose:

Assist in leading the overall manufacturing operations by utilizing the Hood Management Philosophy of “The Hood Way” by engaging People and managing through Process to drive sustainable Performance while maintaining positive employee relations, meeting the company’s production goals, while operating within company policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive the development and execution of the plant operating plan in accordance with company policy and division business objectives.
  • Support the creation of a reliability maintenance and continuous improvement culture across the facility.
  • Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPI’s) for the plant, including budgets, productivity, inventories, safety, quality, etc.
  • Prepare and monitor quarterly, monthly, and weekly budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Manage the ongoing plant operations through supervisory and management staff.
  • Work with direct reports and division staff to establish goals for plant performance in all areas and coach staff to achieve goals.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to supervisors and develop promising employees for future opportunities. Drive cooperation among plant employees.
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed.
  • Contribute to overseeing the reliability maintenance process and plant improvements. Manage capital expenditures.
  • Consistently reinforce a commitment to customer-focus toward both internal and external customers.
  • Establish consistent processes, standards, and expectations for the plant to ensure ongoing performance within the company, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • Provide leadership for the plant and set an example of proper professional conduct for others.
  • Drive the continuous improvement process through direct reports.
Education/Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in forestry, business, manufacturing, or a related field required. Candidates without the required degree must be willing to obtain it through the company's educational assistance program. Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of process manufacturing experience including direct supervisory experience. Prior experience in plywood or wood products industry is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of demonstrated leadership of multiple departments within a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships and foster teamwork.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions that support safe, efficient, and effective plant operations.
  • Proven leadership skills to motivate and guide the operations team toward a culture of reliability and continuous improvement.

Salary Range: $104,000 - $125,000
