Penn State University seeks a part-time Undergraduate Laboratory Technician for the Hockett Laboratory to support research on plant‑microbe interactions and microbial communities. Responsibilities include routine lab maintenance, waste decontamination, media preparation, and assisting with ongoing projects in a safe, organized setting.

Ideal candidates are detail‑oriented, reliable, and able to follow protocols. Training will be provided; prior lab experience is beneficial but not required.

Qualifications

• Interest in microbiology, plant pathology, ecology, or related disciplines
• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow laboratory protocols
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to lift and move laboratory and greenhouse materials as needed
• Willingness to perform routine laboratory maintenance tasks

Responsabilités

• Assist with routine laboratory maintenance and organization.
• Decontaminate biological waste.
• Prepare microbiological media and reagents.
• Wash laboratory glassware and equipment; clean greenhouse pots and soil.
• Maintain laboratory supplies; ensure safe, efficient research environment.
• Support graduate students and researchers with ongoing projects.
