Job summary

Sherwin-Williams is seeking a Plant Manager to oversee daily plant operations, optimize capital and human resources, and ensure production quality within cost targets. You will lead a multi-shift operation, drive continuous improvement, and maintain safety and regulatory compliance across the site in Wheeling, IL.

The role requires extensive leadership in manufacturing, a Six Sigma/Lean background, and a track record of improving productivity and quality while controlling costs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or four years of operations experience.
  • At least seven years in leadership at a manufacturing or distribution facility or operations environment.
  • One year of experience applying continuous improvement tools (Six Sigma, 5S, Lean, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, and run day-to-day operations.
  • Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing costs and maintaining quality.
  • Facilitate production output, quality, and on-time shipping.
  • Allocate resources and utilize assets to produce optimal results.
  • Implement strategies aligning with company initiatives and provide clear direction.
  • Promote employee involvement in site programs and processes.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify waste or overtime.

Job Description

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the plant. This position is responsible for maximizing capital and human resource utilization in attaining production quality objectives within established cost parameters. They are responsible for maintaining all standards in accordance with safety, quality, inventory, and productivity levels as well as providing leadership to attain the site's operational and safety goals through the implementation of the Company's vision and strategy.

Additional Information
  • Day Shift but supports 24/7 Operations
  • 5% Travel
  • This position is also eligible for bonus and long-term incentive compensation awards based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.

Responsibilities

  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
  • Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
  • Promote employee involvement and engagement in site programs and processes
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime
  • Commit to plant safety procedures
  • Implement capital projects and training programs to attain volume and productivity goals
  • Develop and ensure execution of site budgets
  • Manage, coach, and develop members of the management team
  • Guide teams in effectively utilizing the tools of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing to complete continuous improvement projects
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
  • Must have completed formal training in and/or have at least one (1) year of work experience applying continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean, etc.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree or higher or have at least four (4) years of work experience in operations
  • Must have at least seven (7) years of experience working in a leadership role at a manufacturing and/or distribution facility or in an operations environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Have Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt, Black Belt, etc.)
  • Have a bachelor's degree or higher in Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Operations, or Supply Chain
  • Have prior work experience using timekeeping and/or production control systems
  • Have prior work experience using a safety management system
  • Have prior work experience leading or participating in an OSHA VPP Audit or maintaining VPP status
  • Have prior work experience in the paint or chemical processing industry
  • Have previous work experience in a multi-shift operation
