Job summary

The Breakaway Group client is seeking a seasoned Plant Operations Leader to direct all aspects of mill operations, driving safety, lean initiatives, and cost control while guiding production, maintenance, engineering and quality teams toward continuous improvement and strong performance.

The role emphasizes developing manufacturing plans, optimizing schedules, and fostering teamwork to achieve ambitious productivity targets in a metals-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Material Science, Operations Management or Business; and / or combination of education and equivalent relevant years of experience

Responsibilities

• Directs and manages all plant operations including production, maintenance, engineering, quality and other production activities
• Lead lean initiatives, visual controls and PBS concepts to reduce waste and improve productivity
• Develop manufacturing plans and production schedules to increase profit while reducing overhead
• Coordinate purchasing, production, quality and distribution to meet year-over-year improvements in revenue and productivity
• Champion health, environment and safety initiatives and ensure compliance
• Prepare and maintain plant budgets and monitor costs to meet budget goals
• Provide direction to direct reports and foster a culture of involvement and accountability

Offerings include machining and cutting, slitting and edging, surface finishing, and special testing of precision-engineered tubing, as well as solid and hollow engineered shapes made to your specifications.

Job Summary

Directs and manages all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, engineering, quality and other production-related activities while ensuring the mill’s number one priority is safety. Leads the mill’s culture initiative to create a great place to work for attracting and retaining top talent. Employs lean manufacturing techniques, visual controls and plant performance measures to meet production goals and strives for continuous improvement. Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and better working relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Seeks to improve the mill’s operational performance and competitive positioning through continuous improvement of production related processes
• Assists with overseeing policies, procedures, and processes designed to minimize costs and maximize production
• Oversees the mill’s manufacturing processes and identifies opportunities for process improvement or efficiency optimization
• Develops a manufacturing plan and production schedule that increases profit while reducing overhead
• Work directly with department heads to coordinate purchasing, production, quality and distribution processes, with the expectation of achieving budgeted year over year improvements in revenue, ROS, yield and productivity
• Execute the strategy deployment plan within the business including implementing, operating and optimizing new technologies and processes that build on our sustainable competitive advantage and position the business for decades of highly profitable rapid growth
• Champion health, environment, and safety initiatives within the business, while maintaining compliance standards
• Provide expectations, accountability, and direction to direct reports
• Prepares and maintains plant budgets; control and monitor cost to maintain budget goals
• Champion the Plymouth Business system and utilize PBS concepts in all aspects of the business resulting in elimination of waste, clarity of purpose, and organizational focus, while driving continuous improvement within the organization
• Develop a culture that promotes involvement, communication, mutual trust & respect, expectations and accountability, and a passion for excellence

Supervisory Responsibilities

Additional Responsibilities (as assigned by Department Manager or General Manager)

• Work with Engineering, Maintenance and Quality organization to assure project work is effective and meeting expectations to assure KPI’s are meeting desired targets

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Material Science, Operations Management or Business; and / or combination of education and equivalent relevant years of experience
• 8-10 years of manufacturing experience
• A strong lean manufacturing background
• Previous experience in metals is strongly desired
