Job summary

The City of San Leandro is seeking a Plant Maintenance Worker to support the Water Pollution Control Plant. You will perform hand-on maintenance of heavy-duty equipment, assist mechanics, and help ensure reliable plant operations in a UTC CA environment.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, tool operation, safety compliance, and grounds upkeep at the Water Pollution Control Plant and related sites. Requires a HS diploma and 2 years of semi-skilled maintenance experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of relevant semi-skilled maintenance experience.
• Experience in plant maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assists Maintenance Mechanics with semi-skilled and routine maintenance tasks.
• Performs preventive maintenance including lubrication and oil changes.
• Operates forklift and front-end loaders to move materials.
• Assists in collection system maintenance activities for training purposes.
• Follows safety rules per Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
• Maintains inventory records of materials used.
• Performs painting tasks and coatings.
• Part of Confined Space Entry Team.
• Maintains plant and field grounds (mowing, raking, trimming).
• Operates power and hand tools.
• Cleans and hoses down structures and equipment.
• Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.

Job description

A division within the City Manager's Office, the Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) operates around the clock to treat wastewater, safeguard our local waterways, and ensure environmental compliance for the community. As a Plant Maintenance Worker under the direction of the Plant Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a hands-on role in the upkeep, preventive maintenance, and repair of specialized heavy-duty industrial equipment, pumps, piping networks, and treatment systems essential to plant operations.

Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in connection with maintenance of the Water Pollution Control Plant buildings and grounds, including wastewater and storm lift stations and performs related work as required.

Supervision Exercised and Received

:

Exercises no supervision. Receives general supervision from a section supervisor; receives lead direction from higher level staff.

Essential Functions

:

The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.

• Assists Maintenance Mechanics performing semi-skilled and routine maintenance tasks;
• Performs preventive maintenance tasks on plant equipment such as lubrication and oil changes on stationary and portable equipment;
• Operates forklift and front and end loaders to move materials and supplies;
• Assists in collection system maintenance activities for training purposes.
• Follows all safety rules and protocols included in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program; takes appropriate action as required to identify and correct safety hazards and report safety concerns to his/her supervisor;
• Maintains accurate records of inventory control and materials used;
• Performs various painting tasks by preparing, painting and coating surfaces;
• Performs as a member of the Confined Space Entry Team;
• Maintains the grounds at the Water Pollution Control Plant and other field locations such as moving grass, raking leaves, trimming trees, shrubs and clearing away debris;
• Operates power and hand tools during the course of duties;
• Cleans and hoses down structures and equipment;
• Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes;

Experience and Education Guidelines:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
