Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company is seeking an entry-level General Maintenance helper to assist with basic maintenance tasks around the worksite. Under supervision, you will learn preventative maintenance and basic job functions while contributing to long-term development within the company.

You will perform inspections, basic troubleshooting, and operate welding and cutting tools as part of a team focused on safety, reliability, and productivity in an industrial environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience in maintenance, preferably around heavy equipment.
• Willingness to learn mechanical and maintenance fundamentals.
• Exposure to preventative maintenance processes under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections and perform preventive maintenance tasks.
• Troubleshoot and replace basic mechanical components such as conveyor belts, idlers, pulleys, and water pumps.
• Perform structural repairs and welding tasks, including replacement of wear-parts.
• Adhere to MSHA and OSHA regulations and implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Observe operation areas to identify anomalies and perform minor adjustments.
• Record and maintain service logs and maintenance records.

Job Summary

The General Maintenance position is an entry-level role and is responsible for assisting with general tasks around the worksite. This role requires minimum prior experience and serves as an introduction to the industry. Under supervision, the helper may assist with minor preventative maintenance tasks and learn basic job functions. The primary objective of this position is to assess the employee’s potential for long-term development within the company.

Essential Functions

• Conduct pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections, lubricate moving parts, and complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks to prevent component failures.
• Troubleshoot and replace basic mechanical components, including conveyor belts, idlers, pulleys, and water pumps.
• Perform structural repairs, hard facing, and replace heavy wear-parts (such as crusher liners and shaker screens) using welding, cutting, and grinding equipment.
• Strictly adhere to MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) and OSHA regulations, execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and maintain a hazard-free work area.
• Observe aggregate crushing, washing, and screening areas during operation to identify anomalies by sight or sound and perform minor adjustments.
• Record and maintain service logs, lubrication reports, and maintenance records for plant equipment.

Other Requirements

• Entry level mechanic, qualified to perform general utility work and light maintenance under supervision of experienced mechanic.
• Knowledge of using a wide variety of hand and power tools, cutting torches and welding equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical equipment maintenance.
• Safety and compliance with MSHA procedures and requirements.
• A valid driver\'s license.
