Job summary

The Salk Institute is seeking a Research Assistant I to support the Harnessing Plants Initiative. You will work on plant cultivation, tissue harvesting, data collection, and analysis across multiple species, contributing to large-scale experiments and maintaining meticulous records.

Responsibilities include growth in controlled environments, sample preparation for molecular work, and collaboration with scientists to keep projects on schedule, with emphasis on accuracy, organization, and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related scientific discipline required.
• No professional experience required.
• Fundamental skills in molecular biology and plant biology.
• Other skills (preferred):

Responsibilities

• Grow soybean and other plants in growth chambers, greenhouses and on agar plates or culture vessels.
• Prepare sterile growth media and plate seeds using sterile technique.
• Harvest roots and tissues, flash freeze samples, and store at −80 °C for analyses.
• Scan plates and organize image files with complete metadata (genotype, treatment, date).
• Maintain seed stocks, monitor stocks and order supplies to avoid delays.
