Job summary

BD is seeking a Plant Engineering Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership of the site engineering function (Automation, Process Engineering) and to embed BD Excellence as the core operating system. This role drives safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) improvements through Lean methodologies and a strong focus on developing high-performing technical teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; 7–10+ years of engineering/manufacturing experience; 3–5+ years leadership experience managing managers or technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of BD Excellence or similar Lean operating system is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering input into Strategy Deployment (SDD) and site master plan.
  • Cascade KPIs aligned to SQDC priorities across engineering teams.
  • Align engineering roadmap to BD Excellence roadmap and maturity expectations.
  • Own and drive Zero Loss & Continuous Improvement across engineering domains (safety, quality, downtime, cost).
  • Develop high-performing engineering organization and coach leaders and teams.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering contributions to site objectives.

Job Description

The Plant Engineering Manager provides strategic and operational leadership of the site engineering function (Automation, Process Engineering), while embedding BD Excellence as the core operating system.

This role drives world-class performance across Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) through:

Deployment of BD Excellence principles (Lean, CI, Zero Loss mindset)
Development of high-performing technical teams
Execution of site strategy deployment and Cost-to-Win (CtW) initiatives in collaboration with Site BD Excellence Manager

Organizational Impact

  • Member of Site Leadership Team / extended LT

  • Leads managers, engineers, and technical specialists

  • Accountable for multi-year engineering strategy aligned to site master plan

  • Direct impact on:

  • Operates with broad influence across manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and BD Excellence teams

1. Strategy Deployment (BD Excellence Anchor)

  • Lead engineering input into Strategy Deployment (SDD) and site master plan

  • Champion projects around Zero Loss mindset across engineering domains (safety, quality, downtime, cost)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related)

  • 7–10+ years of engineering/manufacturing experience

  • 3–5+ years leadership experience managing managers or technical teams

  • Strong knowledge of:

Preferred:

  • Six Sigma certification

  • Experience with BD Excellence or similar Lean operating system
