Job summary

Kaiser Permanente Moreno Valley Community Hospital is seeking a skilled maintenance professional to perform a range of tasks on medical center equipment. You will handle HVAC, electrical work, plumbing, and general plant maintenance, reading diagrams and performing calibrations to ensure safe operation.

Candidates should have 2+ years in steam or electrical work, HVAC experience, and EPA 608 certification if refrigeration is involved.

Qualifications

  • 2 years steam-related equipment experience or possession of the LA Unlimited Steam License or 500 HP LA City Steam License.
  • 2 years journeyman-level electrical experience with passing scores on electrical tests.
  • HVAC/refrigeration experience; EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification if refrigeration experience.
  • Knowledge of reading blueprints, diagrams and repair manuals.
  • Strong preventive maintenance and safety procedure knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance tasks such as replacing filters, lubricating bearings and repairing cabinets.
  • Conduct electrical repairs on beds lamps, switches, fuses and non-complex devices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair thermostats, pipes, outlets, and related equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to extend equipment life and ensure cleanliness.
  • Disassemble, repair or replace parts after determining malfunction from diagrams.
  • Read schematics to test circuits and calibrate electrical components.
  • Weld and modify equipment or structures as needed; assist with locksmithing tasks.

Job description

Job Summary

Performs various maintenance task and repairs most equipment and machinery utilized in the Medical Center. Operates machines vital to performing of maintenance and repair. Operates, maintains, modifies and repairs a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. 1. Performs various maintenance tasks such as replacing filters, lubricating bearings, repairing cabinets. 2. Performs electrical repairs such as bed lamps, non-complex electrical devices, changing balsas, repairing electrical line cords, fixing light switches, isolating electrical problems and replacing fuses. 3. Conducts electrical safety test on equipment, electrical plugs and outlets. 4. Unclogs pipes and plumbing fixtures and related equipment as necessary. 5. Performs routine repairs on such equipment as stethoscopes, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, vacuum units, cart washers, autoclaves, oxygen outlets, air outlets, suction pumps, hospital beds, sinks, toilets and other associated hospital plant equipment. 6. Completes work assignments to include routine installations of plant equipment, hanging of signs and pictures, adjusting and maintaining time clocks. 7. Determines type and extent of equipment malfunction, adjusting, disassembling, repairing or replacing of parts and components; reassembles and tests equipment for safe and proper operations by reading blueprints, diagrams and repair manuals. 8. Performs preventative maintenance to include cleaning, oiling, painting, calibration and other related services to extend the life cycle of equipment, or to maintain a clean, safe, hygienic environmental work area. 9. Through on-the-job train assists skilled maintenance persons in trade tasks in which employee is not certified. 10. Repairs and maintains air conditioning and refrigeration equipment to include related electrical circuit analysis. 11. Troubleshoots and repairs related equipment to include but not limited to thermostats, ice machines, air dampers and other associated equipment. 12. Repairs complex electrical devices and components requiring the use of schematic and wiring diagrams. 13. Performs circuit analysis to localize, isolate and identify defective electrical components using precision test equipment to include volt, ohm meters and oscilloscopes to repair circuit boards and transistorized components, replacing defective components, restoring equipment to operation state and performing calibration and electrical safety tests. 14. Repair or modify equipment or plant structures by welding using both electrical or oxygen-acetylene equipment, cuts, brazes and solders all types of metal materials. 15. Perform locksmithing tasks to include cutting keys, fitting and installing locks and maintains a key control system. 16. Performs other related duties as required to include driving trucks or vans to outlying clinics or remote areas to facilitate or expedite maintenance requirements. 17. Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organizations philosophy or providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Basic Qualifications
Experience
  • This position requires meeting at least 2 out of 3 numbered skill areas below:
  • 1) 2 years recent experience with steam related equipment. Possession of the LA Unlimited Steam License OR the 500 HP LA City Steam License.
  • 2) 2 years recent Journeyman level electrical experience AND a passing score on the electrical knowledge and performance skills tests.
  • 3) Air-conditioning/refrigeration experience. Those qualifying with refrigeration experience must possess EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification AND a passing score on the air-conditioning knowledge and performance skills tests.
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems required. Working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local codes required.
