Job summary

OSI Group Batavia, IL is seeking an experienced Engineering/Maintenance Leader to plan, direct, and optimize plant maintenance and related engineering activities. You will supervise supervisors and managers to drive efficiency, reliability, and cost control across facilities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and direct design, layout, installation and maintenance of building, systems and production equipment.
  • Plan general project and maintenance schedules and provide to supervisors and managers to ensure plant efficiency and around-the-clock maintenance.
  • Establish targets for measuring department efficiency and coach supervisors and managers to achieve targets.
  • Identify vendors for construction projects, maintenance, outside services; negotiate costs and seek final approval from Plant Manager.
  • Research, recommend and implement improvements to buildings, utilities, processes and equipment to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Provide technical assistance to production; diagnose and recommend improvements to operations.
  • Ensure accurate records relating to maintenance work, equipment, engineering, purchasing and regulatory contacts.
  • Monitor utilities usage; diagnose excessive consumption and minimize costs.
  • Collaborate with Plant Manager to develop capital budget and inputs for capital projects.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to improve processes and assist other facilities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory and environmental requirements.
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc reports on project status, costs and maintenance activities.
  • Coach, motivate, discipline, train and manage hourly and salaried staff.
  • Adhere to safety procedures through training and use of protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all engineering, project, and maintenance related activity for the plant . Responsible for supervising, through Supervisors and Managers, a group of employees involved in plant maintenance and engineering activities.

Job Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate and direct the design, layout, installation, and maintenance of the building, building support systems and production equipment in a cost-effective manner in accordance with corporate, production and regulatory, requirements.

Plan general project and maintenance schedules and provide to supervisors and managers to ensure that the plant is operating efficiently and that around-the-clock maintenance services are available.

Establish and communicate targets for measuring department efficiency, i.e., down-time, repair costs, parts costs, inventory levels, labor hours, etc. Measure progress and provide coaching to supervisors and managers to achieve targets.

Identify vendors for use in construction projects, maintenance supplies, outside services and other needs . Negotiate costs and seek final approval from the Plant Manager.

Research, recommend and implement, as approved, improvements to building, utilities, processes, and plant equipment to reduce costs, improve product, improve efficiencies, and otherwise support established facility goals and objectives .

Provide technical assistance to production departments; diagnose and make recommendations to eliminate production problems and to improve operating effectiveness through more efficient use and care of equipment.

Ensure that accurate and compliant records relating to maintenance work, equipment, engineering, research, purchasing , and all regulatory agency contacts are maintained .

Monitor utilities usage: diagnose excessive consumption rates and implement procedures to minimize costs.

Work closely with Plant Manager to develo p capital appropriation budget and provide input on engineering, purchasing and installation requirements for capital projects.

Participate on a variety of teams that work cross- func tionally to improve proc esses wi thin the organization and assist other company fac ilitie s as required .

Responsible for complying with applicable regulatory, governmental safety, environmental considerations.

Prepare routine and ad hoc reports on project status, costs, down-time, maintenance activities and other related matters.

Coach, motivate, discipline, train, terminate and effectively manage the performance of hourly and salaried team members.

This role has the responsibility to understand and place in practice appropriate safety procedures . This responsibility is achieved through education, training, use of protective equipment (as applicable) and by following safety policies, regulations, standards, and laws.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills

5-10 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment managing a maintenance team is preferred.

  • Strong experience troubleshooting issues and developing a team of more junior maintenance staff is preferred.

Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite Products.

Possess expert level knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations as applies to the construction, maintenance and operation of a manufacturing facility and its equipment.

Ability to create, read, and analyze a variety of blueprints, schematics, and similar documentation.

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations and related operational best practices.

Ability to manage complex installation and modification projects involving major capital expenditures in responsibility.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with peers, management, and external contacts.

Ability to supervise and manage the work of others to achieve established goals and objectives .

Education

BA/BS or equivalent is preferred.

The salary range for this role is $119,480–$179,220, with a midpoint of $149,350. Offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on skills, experience, and internal equity. In rare cases, highly qualified candidates may receive an offer above the midpoint; however, offers at the maximum of the range are not customary. The salary range posted represents the low and high end of OSI’s salary range for this position. Salaries will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, experience, and performance. Base salary is one component of OSI’s overall total rewards package. Other components may include bonuses, special pay programs, comprehensive time off, 401k with match, and a full suite of benefit offerings for you and your family.

Work can be performed within a manufacturing plant environment with noise, extreme temperatures, and significant movement of powered equipment, people and conveyor (may depend on the role).

Work conditions are typical of a food manufacturing facility.

This role does not require any domestic travel.

Position may require the physical agility of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Position may require frequent and/or infrequent of bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, controls and standing/walking on concrete flooring.

Position may require the physical ability to stand/walk for Greater than 4 hours.
