Position Summary: The Plant Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to maintain and improve operations and facilities.

Key Roles / Responsibilities:

  • Work with Production and Quality departments, reviews equipment and processes, designs and implements modifications to enhance production capabilities and ensure a quality product. Conducts all work in accordance with standard engineering principles and practices.
  • Design, fabricate, install, construct, commission and start–up of new or modified plant equipment or facilities.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in plant safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure plant compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Manage expenditures related to project assignments as well as projecting estimated costs of proposed projects.
  • Analyze and improve plant yield, process cycle times, and operating costs for new and existing processes.
  • Develop improvements to electrical and control systems which provide increased plant reliability and operability.
  • Manage Maintenance Department, with Maintenance Supervisor as a direct report.
  • Control budget for plant maintenance.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering and five plus years engineering experience is preferred.
  • A strong knowledge of manufacturing process equipment is required.
  • Hard working and field-oriented engineer.
  • Project minded communicator with exemplary leadership abilities.
  • Excellent people management and interpersonal skills with the desire and potential to grow into supervisory or operations leadership roles.
  • Proficient at computer skills such as using Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, and similar office software products.
  • Working knowledge of process control systems and statistical process analysis.
  • Assists in writing capital project requests, creating project scopes for bids and obtaining vendor quotes. Manages projects in a timely manner and within budget, coordinates efforts with contractors and onsite personnel.
  • Tests newly installed equipment to ensure contract specifications are met and proper operating conditions are understood by personnel. Trains employees on use of such equipment as appropriate.
  • Must provide mechanical, electrical and instrumentation technical support to plant and other company facilities as needed.
  • Responsible for providing technical support to the Maintenance department on 24/7 basis.

Working Conditions:

  • Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, squatting, pulling, pushing, climbing, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, and seeing; standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
  • The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions at times.

Additional Requirements:

  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Must be able to move and lift to 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
