Job summary

SNAP Gourmet Foods in Cleveland, OH seeks a hands-on Plant Controller to oversee accounting and manufacturing financials. This full-time role reports to the VP of Operations and Finance and collaborates with Operations, Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, and leadership to ensure accurate reporting, cost control, and strong internal controls.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in manufacturing accounting, strong ledger and cost accounting expertise, and proficiency with ERP systems and Excel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience with inventory accounting and manufacturing or cost accounting.
• Strong Excel skills and ERP experience, preferably SAGE 100.
• CPA or CMA is a plus, but not required.
• Experience in a food manufacturing or packaging environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting activities and financial reporting for the manufacturing facility.
• Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure timely, accurate transactions.
• Oversee inventory accounting for raw materials, packaging, WIP, and finished goods.
• Analyze manufacturing costs, product costs, and production variances.
• Collaborate with Operations to monitor labor, materials, overhead, and yields.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 To $85,000.00 Annually

SNAP Gourmet Foods is a food packing and manufacturing facility focused on producing high-quality food products for our customers. We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Plant Controller to oversee the accounting and financial activities of our manufacturing operation.

The Plant Controller will report to the VP of Operations and Finance and will work closely with Operations, Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, and corporate leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective cost management, inventory accuracy, and strong financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day accounting activities and financial reporting for the manufacturing facility.
• Manage the monthly financial close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and ensure financial transactions are recorded timely and accurately.
• Oversee inventory accounting, including raw materials, packaging materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
• Monitor inventory activity and work with Operations and Warehouse teams to maintain inventory accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Analyze manufacturing costs, product costs, and production variances and communicate significant findings to management.
• Partner with Operations to monitor labor, materials, overhead, production yields, scrap, and other manufacturing-related costs.
• Assist with product costing, cost-of-goods analysis, and profitability reporting.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Review financial performance against budget and prior periods and provide meaningful analysis to management.
• Oversee or coordinate accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting activities.
• Support annual physical inventory counts, audits, tax reporting, and other financial compliance requirements.
• Maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, cost controls, and operational efficiency.
• Work closely with the VP of Operations and Finance and plant leadership to provide timely financial information and support business decisions.
• Collaborate with Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, Quality, and other departments to resolve financial and operational issues.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, food manufacturing, food packing, distribution, or another inventory-intensive environment.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience with inventory accounting and manufacturing or cost accounting.
• Ability to analyze costs, investigate variances, and understand the financial impact of manufacturing operations.
• Experience with inventory, production costs, product costing, or cost-of-goods analysis strongly preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and experience working with an ERP or accounting system, preferably SAGE 100.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to organize work effectively, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both accounting and non-accounting teams.
• Ability to work independently while partnering closely with Operations and Finance leadership.
• CPA or CMA is a plus, but not required.
• Experience in a food manufacturing or food packing environment is strongly preferred.
