Job summary

Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA, seeks a full-time temporary Plant Conservatory Technician to support faculty and students in the CPPC and Biological Sciences Department. The role develops and maintains the CPPC plant collection and oversees horticultural activities, including moving plants to classrooms and teaching labs, preparing supplies, and assisting faculty with experiments.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of biological science principles for instructional labs including plant biology, propagation, nutrition, and pest/disease ID.
• Experience developing and maintaining a diverse living plant collection and managing greenhouse operations.
• Ability to operate greenhouse systems and perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs.
• Familiarity with integrated pest management and safe handling of pest control products.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for teaching and research activities in CPPC and Biological Sciences.
• Move plants to classrooms and labs and prepare supplies and materials.
• Set up laboratory materials and equipment for student and faculty use.
• Assist faculty in developing experiments and demonstrations and support safety in departmental facilities.
