Job summary

SecureBio's AIxBio team seeks a part-time, remote plant researcher with lab or field experience in plant pathogens. You will perform short-term consulting on a project evaluating AI assistants in plant molecular biology and pathology tasks, collaborating with biologists on a full-time team.

This asynchronous, remote role starts ASAP, pays per task at about $80–$150 per hour, and does not include benefits. PhD candidates or students are welcome to apply.

The role

We are looking for plant researchers with lab and/or field experience. We’re especially interested in working with grad students and postdocs. We want you to do short-term consulting for a research project aimed at assessing whether emerging AI assistants are capable of providing useful assistance in plant molecular biology and plant pathology lab work. You would help assess the accuracy of AI assistants in lab troubleshooting tasks. This role would work in collaboration with a team of biologists working on this project full-time.

Who we are

SecureBio is a non-profit working to measure and minimize the risks of new pandemics, including those affecting crops. The AIxBio team at SecureBio builds measurement tools to assess the potential for AI systems to contribute to global catastrophic biological risks, as well as mitigation strategies that can reduce risks once AI capabilities cross specific risk thresholds.

Who we’re looking for

• Has hands-on lab and/or field experience with plant pathogens,
• May be international or US-based.
