Salary Range: $60,251.74 To $75,965.94 Annually
Provides administrative and technical directions to department staff. Reviews construction plans and specifications during all phases to ensure all building, electrical, plumbing and heating and mechanical systems are designed according to adopted codes.
Associate’s degree in engineering or related field.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection and/or plans review involving residential and commercial construction
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the minimum level of qualifications, stated above.
Pass Level I IRC residential certifications. Level 2 ICC certifications, and level 3 Plans Examiner certifications within a specified timeframe as established by the Department.
Must possess or obtain ICC commercial certifications applicable to the scope of inspection, which may include but are not limited to: ICC Commercial Building Inspector, ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector, ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector, ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector
Successfully complete specified customer service training by the end of the first year.
Valid Class I Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Knowledge of city, county, state, and federal laws applicable to building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes.
Knowledge of a specialized area of either electrical, plumbing, or building construction.
Knowledge of building construction methods, practices, and materials.
Knowledge of the techniques of excellent customer service.
Ability to read and comprehend construction plans and technical codes and specifications in the field of building construction.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with the public, department employees, and city/county officials.
Ability to compile, organize, and maintain data, records, and reports.
Ability to use judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
Ability to make required mathematical calculations.
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light to medium physical effort in sedentary to medium level activity which may require some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (up to 20 pounds) and occasionally of heavy weight (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation as well as work in the field at construction sites. Duties require the ability to use a personal computer, to operate a motor vehicle, and to use tools and equipment used in inspection and measurement of construction elements.
Sensory Requirements: Tasks require the ability to communicate orally in person and by telephone. Tasks require the ability to visually inspect items for proper length, width, and shape using various tools and equipment.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are performed with frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including weather, dust, debris, chemicals, and machinery involved in construction.
