Job summary

Fire Safety Consultants, Inc. (FSCI) is seeking a full-time Building / Life Safety Plans Examiner to join our team. The role entails reviewing commercial and residential building plans for code compliance and may involve site inspections at times.

The position supports a hybrid in-office and remote schedule with potential travel to job sites. We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 plus benefits and opportunities for training, certification testing, and professional growth

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• College experience/degree in a related field preferred.
• 2+ years experience performing building plan examinations is preferred.
• ICC certification as Plans Examiner and/or Inspector required or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Knowledge of ICC and NFPA codes is required.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform commercial and residential building plan reviews to verify code compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• May be required to perform inspections for each discipline qualified for.
• Attain applicable certifications and participate in continuing education.
• Maintain professional and timely communication with clients and customers.
• Provide a high level of customer service, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
• May assist in special consulting projects.

FSCI is a highly respected third-party building code and fire protection plan review and consulting company, serving more than 200 municipalities, fire departments and companies across the country.
FSCI is proud to offer a hybrid in-office and remote working schedule which includes working up to 2 days remotely per pay week. We may also consider applicants for a part-time position. The position may include some travel to job sites to perform inspections

Responsibilities:

• Perform one or more of the following: commercial and residential building code (non-structural), fire code, mechanical code, life safety, accessibility, energy, plumbing and electrical plan reviews to verify code compliance with applicable codes and standards. May be required to perform inspections for each discipline qualified for.
• Attain applicable certifications and participate in continuing education.
• Maintain professional and timely communication with clients and customers.
• Ability to provide a high level of customer service, manage multiple priorities, demonstrate attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
• This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Classes in related degree program preferred
• College experience/degree preferred

Experience Preferred:

• The ideal candidate will have 2 or more years of experience performing commercial and/or residential building plans examinations.
• ICC certification as a Plans Examiner and/or Inspector required or ability to obtain within 12 months of date of hire.
• Knowledge of ICC and NFPA codes.
• Ability to perform building inspections.
• Construction knowledge or experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365 with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Electronic plan review experience.

Physical Ability:

• Ability to climb ladders and navigate construction sites.
• Ability to crawl on hands and knees to access low headroom spaces.
• Ability to walk for long periods of time, including climbing multiple flights of stairs.
