Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a planning professional to support land use and zoning decisions in a dynamic urban environment. The role involves researching land use, demographics, housing, and employment factors to inform decisions and ensure compliance with zoning ordinances.

You will review permit applications and drawings for regulatory alignment, assist the public with planning processes, and coordinate communications across departments and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Driver’s license required.
  • Experience working with the public, including explaining rules and handling customer complaints.
  • Experience utilizing GIS, including reading maps and researching property information.
  • Experience performing clerical duties, including filing, record keeping, and scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, surveys, and studies involving land use, demographics, housing, employment, and other planning matters to support planning and zoning decisions
  • Review plans, permit applications, drawings, maps, surveys, and related submittals for compliance with applicable requirements and land development ordinances
  • Provide information and technical assistance regarding zoning, permits, planning processes, flood plain, signage, and subdivision ordinances
  • Serve as a liaison to community members, contractors, businesses, realtors, engineers, developers, agencies, applicants, and other stakeholders
  • Receive and process license and permit applications, collect fees, and ensure departmental compliance
  • Perform administrative functions, coordinate communications, and prepare and compile information and documentation for Board of Zoning Adjustment and Planning Commission meetings
  • Record and dictate board meetings and notify agencies and citizens of hearings, approvals, and recommendations
  • Assist Planners with day-to-day land development activities
  • Make preliminary decisions on permit approval based on presented information
  • Prepare and send meeting-result memos and letters to departments, City Council, and applicants
