Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Company LP is seeking a Planning & Optimization Engineer (Regional Advisor) to support near-term planning horizons from prompt to six weeks. You will work with the West Economics & Planning and Commercial teams to optimize operating plans and provide economic advisory across the West region.

The role involves developing models and tools, advising on feedstock, production plans, logistics, and forecasts, and driving continuous improvement across the value chain.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
• Four (4) years of relevant experience. Technical Services or Economics & Planning experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with Value Chain stakeholders to develop, optimize, and execute value chain operating plans that maximize business value and support operational objectives.
• Advises feedstock selection, production plans, logistics, inventory, and product placement by balancing market conditions, economic drivers, and operational constraints.
• Advises on the development, validation, and communication of operating forecasts, ensuring alignment across stakeholders and business priorities.
• Develops, implements, maintains, and enhances modeling, optimization, scheduling, reporting, and analytical tools to support decision-making and value creation.
• Supports economic evaluations, scenario analyses, and business case assessments to identify opportunities, support strategic decisions, and manage business risk.
• Applies expertise in operations, supply chain dynamics, market fundamentals, and economics to support planning, optimization, and commercial decision-making.
• Facilitates cross-functional collaboration and alignment to resolve issues, mitigate risks, and ensure timely execution of business objectives.
• Supports continuous improvement initiatives that enhance value chain performance, supports value creation, strengthen planning processes, and improve organizational capabilities.
• Provides mentorship to site Economics & Planning groups on work processes, reporting requirements and system interactions.

Position Summary

Value Chain Optimization (VCO) has an opening for the position of Planning & Optimization Engineer (Regional Advisor). This position will report to the Value Chain Optimization Director – West, with focus on the near term planning horizon of prompt to 6 weeks. The successful candidate will provide strategic planning, optimization, and economic advisory support to the West Economics & Planning groups and Commercial Organization. Working across the value chain, this role develops and optimizes operating plans, supports commercial and operational decision-making, conducts economic and scenario analyses, and enhances the analytical tools and processes that drive value creation. The position partners with stakeholders to align forecasts, mitigate risks, improve business performance, and strengthen organizational capabilities through continuous improvement and mentorship of site Economics & Planning teams.
