  • Investigate and resolve delays in material flow quickly and efficiently.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer with emphasis on on-time delivery and shortage management.
  • Collaborate with quality and engineering to review BOM accuracy and router updates.

The Production Planning Engineer will create safe, efficient orders based on forecasts and customer demands for all production processes for sheet and plate metals manufacturing while optimizing resource allocations in a timely manner. This position is in a fast-paced environment and will need the ability to adjust quickly to accommodate demands.


This role with interface with sales, quality, purchasing, production, and management to take customer and material requirements and generate a manufacturing process that can be followed both internally and externally. This position will play an active role in continuous improvements in areas of safety, material yield, cost reduction, quality control, and production scheduling.


The position is classified as full-time, Exempt. Typical days and hours of work are Monday to Friday 8am to 5PM. This position may require occasional long hours and weekend work.



Primary Responsibilities:


  • Planning and coordination of manufacturing jobs in support of the financial plan

  • Monitor adequate inventory levels to support demand profile

  • Understand demand patterns to support work order release strategy in line with financial targets

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including operations planning, production, warehouse, and logistics to ensure smooth material flow

  • Support regular inventory audits and implement corrective actions to maintain accurate inventory records

  • Investigate and resolve delays in material flow quickly and efficiently

  • Serve as the “voice of the customer” with emphasis on OTD and shortage management

  • Collaborate with quality and engineering to review BOM accuracy, router updates, and material rejections to expedite processing and release

  • Understand potential material substitutions to expedite work completion

  • Work with Director of Operations and Master Scheduler to establish production schedule priority



Qualifications


  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in a STEM field

  • Preferred 1-3 years level material planning experience, but not required

  • Preferred experience with MRP, ERP management, and work order management

  • Demonstrate analytical skills and problem-solving methods

  • Ability to manage large volume of work with emphasis on critical tasks

  • Self-starter with strong time management skills

  • General understanding of ERP data and data governance
