Job summary

Camden County, NC is seeking a visionary, collaborative Planning & Inspections Director to lead the Planning & Inspections team, shape land use policy, and guide responsible growth across the community.

This executive role oversees zoning administration, UDO enforcement, long-range planning, and coordinates with the County Manager, Planning Board, and Board of Commissioners to turn community visions into action.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban/Regional Planning or related field.
• 5+ years of professional planning experience with at least 3 years in a management role.
• AICP and NC CZO certifications are required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Direct executive operations and manage all departmental personnel and contract staff.
• Oversee code enforcement, subdivision reviews, site plan evaluations, and zoning compliance.
• Manage fiscal budgets and negotiate consultant contracts for major planning or engineering studies.
• Serve as the primary voice for planning initiatives at public hearings and regional board meetings.

• Certifications: AICP and NC CZO certifications are required (or must be obtained within 1 year of hire).
