Job summary

Lorain County Commissioners seeks a Planning Coordinator with experience in subdivisions and community development. Under general direction, you will assist with major and minor subdivisions for the County Planning Commission, conduct research, and prepare reports and proposals to support development strategies.

You will coordinate with state, local, and federal officials, assist with grant applications and surveys, and help develop marketing plans to attract businesses and inform policy

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Development, Public Administration or a related discipline.
• Three to five years related experience in private industry or public sector.
• Must possess a current valid Ohio vehicle operator's license and maintain eligibility for county vehicle insurance.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding Community Development Programs.
• Knowledge of zoning regulations, community development, grant administration, floodplain rules and regulations; subdivision planning; lot splits.
• Knowledge of Lorain County geographic area and business community.
• Knowledge of State and Local tax incentives/development programs.

Job description

The Mission of Community Development is to serve Lorain County residents and businesses through community development initiatives by striving to, improve quality of life, foster smart growth, promote economic vitality, encourage development and redevelopment, and to provide tools to community leaders for management and for making policy decisions.

Under general direction, a successful candidate assists the Planning Coordinator with major and minor subdivisions for County Planning Commission; conducts research and prepares reports, proposals studies and other documents related to planning; completes grant applications; conducts surveys; coordinates activities with state, local, and federal officials; assists Coordinators and Managers with the coordination and development of economic development plans for Lorain County; develops strategies and marketing plans to attract and retain businesses; performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Development, Public Administration or a related discipline plus three (3) to five (5) years related experience in private industry or public sector and/or any combination of the above education and experience;
• Must possess a current valid Ohio vehicle operator's license and maintain continuing eligibility for coverage under the county's vehicle insurance policy.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding Community Development Programs.
• Knowledge of: zoning regulations; community development; grant administration, floodplain rules and regulations; subdivision planning; lot splits.
• Knowledge of local geographical area and Lorain County business community.
• Knowledge of State and Local tax incentives/development programs
