Job summary

The Department of Planning and Development at the City of Philadelphia is seeking a Communications Intern for the Fall 2026 Semester. The duties may include Public Relations, Marketing, Branding and Advertising, as well as social media, press releases, graphic design, presentations, photography, and blog writing.

The intern can expect to work up to 20 hours per week in-person, while being enrolled in an undergraduate program in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism, Public Affairs

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate studies in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism, Public Affairs or Public Relations.
  • Demonstrated writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Creative thinker with ability to attend public or press events.

Responsibilities

  • Public relations, marketing, branding and advertising duties.
  • Social media management and content creation.
  • Drafting press releases, talking points and blog posts.
  • Graphic design, presentations and basic video work.

Reaching these goals requires city agencies to work together with residents, businesses, developers, advocates, funders, and each other. Qualifications

Education: Currently enrolled in Undergraduate level studies program in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism, Public Affairs, Public Relation.

The successful candidate must be a city of Philadelphia resident within six months of hire
