Base Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 annually
The Production Planner is responsible for creating, managing, and refining manufacturing schedules for assigned product lines to ensure customer requirements are met while supporting inventory goals and operational efficiency. This role works closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Logistics teams to coordinate materials, production priorities, and delivery commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain production schedules that align with customer demand, delivery expectations, and manufacturing capacity.
- Monitor daily planning activities and proactively address schedule exceptions or disruptions.
- Create, release, and maintain production work orders to support manufacturing operations.
- Adjust schedules as needed to respond to changing business priorities, material constraints, or customer requirements.
Materials & Supply Coordination
- Collaborate with Purchasing and suppliers to ensure timely availability of materials needed for production.
- Identify potential supply shortages and implement solutions to minimize production delays.
- Support procurement-related planning activities for assigned materials when required.
Customer & Cross-Functional Communication
- Communicate schedule changes, production challenges, and delivery impacts to key internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with Customer Service to ensure customer expectations and delivery commitments are met.
- Partner with Operations, Logistics, and Supply Chain teams to drive overall planning effectiveness.
Inventory Management
- Manage inventory planning strategies, including safety stock levels, replenishment settings, and lot-sizing parameters.
- Evaluate inventory performance and recommend actions to improve turns while maintaining service levels.
- Review excess, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory and develop plans to reduce inventory risk and exposure.
Product Lifecycle & Continuous Improvement
- Support new product launches, engineering changes, and product transition activities to ensure successful implementation.
- Maintain planning records and documentation in accordance with quality management standards and internal procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, scheduling accuracy, material flow, and overall operational performance.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on process improvement, growth, and operational excellence.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Utilize ERP system data, demand forecasts, inventory metrics, supplier performance information, and production data to support planning decisions.
- Provide inventory, capacity, and production insights to support forecasting and demand planning efforts.
- Generate and analyze reports that help drive informed business decisions.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of four years of experience in production planning, materials planning, scheduling, or a similar manufacturing-related role.
- At least two years of ERP system experience; SAP experience is highly desirable.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.
- Knowledge of production scheduling, inventory control, capacity planning, and supply chain processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Preferred
- APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent).
