Job Description

Provides coordination and resolution for all facilities related issues to ensure a prescribed level of performance and function for all Student Life areas (~6.2M square feet). Often works autonomously and acts as a first responder, providing oversight, coordinating efforts to ensure an expedient response for facilities issues that arise during weekends, holidays and off hours. Delivers and executes Student Life planned and preventative maintenance program focused on building, mechanical, and dining related equipment and infrastructure. Coordinates with Student Life Facilities Managers to support building operations and events; works with other university departments to ensure compliance and safety of exterior amenities. This position will participate in project work consisting of planned replacements, quality assurance, process improvement, and data collection and review; responsible for responding to urgent reactionary service requests of day-to-day facilities related tasks as needed. Supervises and coordinates activities of contractors and university business partners. Hands-on responsibilities include install, repair, replace and maintain building infrastructure components including; plumbing, electrical, mechanical and HVAC related equipment, building envelope, floors, and furniture. Typically transitions from planned and preventative work to reactionary work, based on needs of the operation; receives service requests via CMMS system; attends departmental functions and needed training; will operate departmental vehicles regularly.

Schedule

The standard schedule for this position is 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday. This position is also subject to on-call and weekend work as business needs require.

Responsibilities

50% Technical Skills: Develops, delivers and executes Student Life planned and preventative maintenance program; identifies and documents deficiencies and corrective measures needed; diagnoses building and mechanical system issues and determines how to resolve or mitigate them; reacts to urgent facilities issues; installs, repairs, replaces, and maintains building, mechanical and dining related equipment and systems, adheres to all safety practices and procedures.

30% Leadership: Promotes stewardship of university facilities; responsible for all facilities related activities for assigned periods. May conduct, supervise, or assist in facilities inspections and provide feedback to appropriate personnel. Conducts and participates in team meetings, works with line staff and managers for safe work practices measures; creates reports on findings. Identifies areas and processes that need improvement and provide solutions. Reviews, revises, and manages building/system specific preventive maintenance programs as requested. and program compliance, maintains up-to-date safety manuals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) documentation. Complies with Operations accountability. Delegates tasks to team members based on operational needs, coordinates efforts with Student Life Facilities managers to support building operations and events, supervises activities and checks for satisfactory project completion, identifies deficiencies in campus facilities and initiates changes that benefit the well-being of campus life, responds to crisis situations in an appropriate manner, and escalates as needed to appropriate departments.

20% Customer Service / Communication; corresponds with contractors and university business partners, provides excellent customer service, frequently communicates with management to acknowledge and respond to emergency situations, ensures timely response and completion of all maintenance requests, follows up on outstanding issues as applicable, documents all completed tasks, maintains presentable appearance.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; 2 years of maintenance experience, must be able to push/pull 70 pounds, climb ladders, valid driver’s license, successful completion of a background check.

Desired: 2-4 years of maintenance experience, maintenance certification from a recognized industry board, familiarity with university facilities and operations, 3-5 years of leadership experience, EPA universal certification (section 608).

Compensation

The desired pay range for this position is $28.22 - $37.12 based on education and experience. This position is eligible for weekend and evening shift premiums as applicable.
