Job summary

Canfor in Urbana, AR is seeking a Planer Technician to set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot planer equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will monitor lumber quality, adjust machine settings, and conduct routine maintenance while working with a team to meet production goals and safety standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safely set up and operate planer equipment according to production requirements and product specifications.
  • Monitor lumber quality and finished product appearance throughout the production process.
  • Adjust machine settings to support efficient production and quality outcomes.
  • Repair and replace planer knives and components as required.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
  • Communicate with graders, quality control, and production team members to support operations.
  • Maintain production levels in line with mill objectives and standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures; this position is safety-sensitive.

As a Planer Technician , you'll play a key role in producing high-quality lumber products by setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting planer equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do
  • Safely set up and operate planer equipment according to production requirements and product specifications.
  • Monitor lumber quality and finished product appearance throughout the production process.
  • Adjust machine settings to support efficient production and quality outcomes.
  • Repair and replace planer knives and components as required.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with graders, quality control personnel, and production team members to support operational performance.
  • Maintain production levels in accordance with mill objectives and standards.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and operating practices. This position is designated as safety-sensitive.
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working with industrial machinery or manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, safety instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including working with measurements, ratios, percentages, and production data.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Safety & Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently bend, reach, climb, crouch, kneel, and perform repetitive physical activities.
  • Frequently lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in an industrial environment with moving equipment, elevated work areas, airborne particles, and high noise levels.
