Job summary

Mercy seeks a chaplain to provide spiritual care for patients, families, and staff within a hospital setting. The role emphasizes ministry to all persons, aligned with Mercy values and service standards.

The candidate should have a Theology/Ministry background, one unit of CPE, and experience visiting the sick. Preferred candidates may have master's level study and two CPE units, with endorsement by a faith community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, Divinity, or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent experience; up to one year to complete if needed.
  • Experience visiting the sick in a ministry capacity.
  • Endorsed or eligible for endorsement by faith community; in good standing.

Experience: Experience in visiting the sick in a ministry capacity.

Preferred Education

Some Master's level work in Theology, Ministry, Counseling, Divinity or related field. Two units of CPE.

Current healthcare or military chaplaincy experience.

Preferred Other
  • Where needed, language skills or experience with specific patient groups served.
  • Sensitivity to and respect for various religions.
  • Knowledge in areas of pastoral theology, medical ethics, spirituality, death and dying, and crisis intervention.
  • Is a career ladder candidate.
