Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Piping Mechanical Field Engineer for the Thacker Pass project in Nevada. The candidate will oversee mechanical activities, direct field crews, and coordinate with engineering to ensure safe, compliant installations.

Must have a bachelor's degree and 5–12 years of relevant experience; strong knowledge of Bechtel processes and field management is required. Excellent communication and ES&H awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• U.S. mega-project construction experience is preferred.
• Fluent in English and able to work in a complex construction environment.

Responsibilities

Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far - enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services. Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway. The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno. Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium. Job Summary:

The Piping Mechanical Field Engineer reports to the Area Field Engineer/Project Field Engineer and is responsible for the technical oversight of all Mechanical activities in the assigned area. The selected applicant shall provide technical direction to the direct hire and subcontractor work force, as well as supervision. #LI-NP1

Major Responsibilities:

• Perform and support mechanical installation activities across all areas of construction.
• Coordinate work schedules and material deliveries with field supervision.Complete all assigned training requirements.
• Prepare mechanical installation work packages.Inspect field installations and complete required documentation.Manage quantity take-offs, tracking, reporting, and forecasting for mechanical work.
• Prepare field change notices and as-built documentation.Interface with engineering teams to resolve design and constructability issues.
• Prepare material requisitions and review vendor drawings.
• Work with Procurement and expediting teams to ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Ensure proper storage of equipment to meet environmental protection requirements.
• Perform material receipt inspections as required.Review specifications, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data.Assist in the preparation of construction estimates.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Contract management experience.Understanding of Bechtel work processes and Standard Work Process Procedures.
• Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including ACONEX, TEAMWorks, Bechtel Productivity System, PTR, eSub, and other project automation tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and database systems.Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and current industry design practices.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines related to industrial construction projects.
• Thorough understanding of construction activities, including engineering interfaces, cost control, scheduling, and contract administration.Knowledge of Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook requirements and applicable Bechtel Core Processes.
• Understanding of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.Knowledge of Bechtel's Zero Accidents safety program.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.Prior U.S. mega-project direct-hire construction experience.
