Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Project Field Engineer for the Rio Grande LNG project in Brownsville, TX. You will provide field engineering expertise, work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, and subcontract coordination to ensure safe, compliant, and complete field activities.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and 8–14 years of experience.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree in engineering or science and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's Zero Accident Philosophy.
  • Knowledge of ES&H Handbook, Supervisors ES&H Manual and Project Safety Management Plan.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies.
  • Experience supervising subcontractors and Direct Hire workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares construction drawings and schedules; designs temporary facilities and ensures as-built drawings are produced.
  • Initiates field purchase requisitions and prepares quantity takeoffs for field materials and equipment.
  • Verifies commodities in quantity tracking systems and related databases.
  • Upholds zero accident philosophy and ensures safety of craft and equipment.
  • Develops understanding of system scope and reviews inspection/test plans; coordinates subcontractor submittals.

Project Overview:

Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support their vision to provide the world access to lower carbon intensive energy with their Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in Brownsville, Texas. RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984‑acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and one marine berth. At full capacity, the five‑train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Brownsville, Texas is a city known for its diverse history, tradition, and rich culture. Located in the southernmost region in the beautiful state of Texas, lays Brownsville a rich, tropical oasis bordering the Rio Grande River and near the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities:
Work Planning & Packaging
  • Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
  • Leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.
Material Management
  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
  • Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
Quantities
  • Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
Safety / Quality Control
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
Technical
  • Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities.
  • Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.
  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans.
  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of a single or multi-discipline construction or engineering operation.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy.
  • Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan and the Bechtel Core Processes.
  • Knowledge of the Six Sigma program tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
  • Knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts, and the contractor and subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
  • Experience working with, supervising and administering subcontractors and/or Direct Hire workforce.
  • Knowledge is normally acquired through: A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or Specialized courses in construction technology and management, and/or Prior practical work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
Additional Information:

Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
