Job summary

Spectra Tech, Inc. seeks a piping design engineer for full-time support of facility and production activities at Oak Ridge (Cat 2/3). You will produce design outputs such as drawings, data sheets, and equipment specifications for modifications.

Role requires pipe stress analysis (AutoPipe a plus) and compliance with ASME B31.3/B31.1 in a NRC/DOE regulated environment; collaborate with other disciplines and field teams.

Qualifications

• Requires ABET-accredited BS degree in relevant engineering plus 10+ years of professional experience or a MS degree plus 10+ years of professional experience.
• A Q clearance or ability to obtain one is required.
• Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide design output documentation to support minor facility modifications.
• Must be able to perform pipe stress analysis; AutoPIPE experience is a plus.
• Develop designs in accordance with ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.1.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and plant organizations to produce timely design outputs.
• Interface with clients, production and support staff; perform field walk-downs in production environments.

Job description

Engineering with full time piping design engineering support for facility and production area activities in Cat 2 and Cat 3 facilities. The responsibilities for the design engineer are:

• Provide design output documentation to support minor facility modifications. The types of design output documents typically developed by a piping design engineer within the Mission Engineering organization are drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.
• Must be able to do pipe stress analysis. Experience with AutoPipe is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with and experience in developing designs in accordance with ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.1.
• Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.
• Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable.
• Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
• Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees. Must be willing to perform field walk-downs and work in a production environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

• Requires an ABET accredited BS degree in a relevant Engineering discipline plus 10 or more years of relevant professional experience or a MS degree in a relevant Engineering discipline plus 10 or more years of relevant professional experience. A Q clearance or ability to get one is required.
