Job summary

Worley Group in Long Beach, California is seeking a Piping Designer Level I to join our engineering team. The role focuses on delivering piping design services, supporting procurement, construction and commissioning activities, and potentially leading project components on specific assignments.

The position requires 1–3 years of piping design experience, familiarity with piping software and MS Office, and an Associate degree or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical diploma, certificate in Drafting/Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
• Relevant postgraduate qualifications in engineering, management, project management or supervisory qualifications or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Deliver piping engineering services meeting Worley and regulatory specs, on time and within budget.
• Initiate, manage and supervise piping engineering project requirements.
• Participate in meetings, prepare progress reports, follow checking procedures; ensure changes comply with change management.
• Provide assistance during procurement, construction and commissioning activities; write requisitions, conduct bid evaluations, write POs.
• If required, act as piping engineering Lead on projects.
• Supervise and assign tasks within a team and ensure compliance with requirements.
• Keep up to date with developments and innovations in piping engineering.
• Assist junior personnel within the piping team.
• Communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
• Identify issues and develop solutions; seek help when required.

Piping Designer Level I

Purpose

You will provide piping engineering services to Worley and its customers, including technical support and supervision within the piping engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Deliver piping engineering services that meet Worley', its customers' and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
• Initiate, manage and if required supervise piping engineering project requirements.
• Perform piping engineering services such as:
  • participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports and follow required checking procedures;
  • ensure the project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes;
  • provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction and commissioning activities. For example, write requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations and write purchase orders.
• If required, act as the piping engineering Lead on specific projects.
• If responsible for a team:
  • outline project requirements including actively promoting workshare, where appropriate, assign tasks and supervise progress; and
  • ensure the required services meet Worley, its customers and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
• Proactively resolve any discrepancies between Worley and its Customer's requirements.
• Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in piping engineering.
• If required, assist and support junior personnel within the piping engineering team.
• Communicate effectively with the piping engineering team and project stakeholders, including the Customer.
• Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.

What you will bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements

• Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its customers.
• A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of piping engineering, and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
• A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Competent use of piping engineering specific software.
• Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
• Substantial technical land practical experience in piping engineering in the same or similar industry including experience in working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
• 1 to 3 years' experience in piping design.
• At least 1 to 3 years in petrochemical and refining with project design, execution, construction.
• On-site and/or in-refinery experience.
• Refinery experience.
• Oil and Gas experience.

Additional information

• This role is in California.
• Hourly Range $31.07-$45.69 commensurate with experience and level of position.
