Job summary

Sterling Engineering seeks a mid-level designer with experience in SmartPlant 3D and related plant design tools to contribute to power generation and heavy industrial projects. The role involves drafting piping and instrument diagrams, modeling equipment, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

You will coordinate with project drafters and engineers, maintain schedules, and assist in mentoring interns or new graduates.

Qualifications

• Mid-Level experience with design software
• 3–5 years’ experience with SmartPlant 3D or similar
• Experience in EPC environments
• Power generation or heavy industrial project exposure
• Nuclear, combined cycle, carbon/hydrogen capture, renewables, fossil fuels, LNG exposure

Responsibilities

• Draft sketches, piping and instrument diagrams, or model 3D equipment items for power plant systems
• Check design deliverables for codes, standards, contracts, and company requirements
• Adhere to schedules and work assignments to ensure successful project completion
• Coordinate with drafters, designers and team members to support progress
• Train and advise interns or new graduates

• Smart Plant experience (3 to 5 years’ experience with this software)

• Pipe routing experience.

Responsibilities

• Draft sketches, piping and instrument diagrams, or model 3D equipment items for power plant systems including steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems.
• Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
• Adhere to schedules and work assignments to ensure successful project completion.
• Coordinate with other drafters, designers and other team members assigned to a project or task, and support work progress and results.
