Job Type: Regular. Plains is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil. The Pipeliner I role is an entry‑level maintenance position responsible for performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs on specified pipeline assets under normal supervision, and will assist in other areas of pipeline operations depending upon experience level. This is a field‑based role with frequent work in open environments with extremes of heat and cold, often in proximity to high voltage and/or chemicals, which requires safety accommodations such as protective clothing and equipment. This role is subject to callouts for work associated with Plains field operations and/or emergency response.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, upkeep and cleaning of station, pipeline and terminal facilities, including but not limited to painting, weed control, and general housekeeping as required to tanks, valves, engines, motors, mixers, piping, control panels, fencing, office, shop, and storage buildings.
- Perform routine scheduled and non‑scheduled equipment maintenance either with assistance or guidance from maintenance personnel.
- Assist welders, operators, technicians, and inspectors or other related positions in performing their functions.
- Assist Mechanical and Electrical Technicians with repairs; deliver parts and supplies to jobsites.
- Assist in pipeline coating or related repairs.
- Assist in environmental clean‑up role and leak repairs.
- Assist in construction and special projects where requested.
- Install and operate hot tap machines, install anodes, and read rectifiers.
- Clean and maintain pipeline and facility rights‑of‑way.
- Perform "one‑call" duties to protect pipelines from third‑party damage; locate and mark pipelines manually or with line locators and read and interpret computer‑generated "one‑call" notices, maps, and drawings.
- Perform fire watch, safety monitor and related safety roles on an ongoing basis.
- Demonstrate safe work practices following Plains’ safety policies and procedures.
- Perform weekly station checks/observations.
- Assist with any other pipeline related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant work experience preferred.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English and to perform basic math.
- Ability to read and interpret pipeline maps, technical drawings, and technical schematics.
- Ability to work in a team‑based work environment, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must have basic mechanical aptitude.
- Must have basic computer skills: Excel, Microsoft Office, Word, etc.
- Must be familiar with PHMSA and OSHA regulations.
- Must have an outstanding safety record.
- Ability to successfully complete company Haz‑Mat training, required DOT operator qualifications to perform pipeline mechanical operations, and mandatory safety training.
- Ability to work in moderate to heavy physically demanding working conditions, including working outdoors in an open environment with extremes of heat and cold.
Qualifications
- Valid US drivers’ license with a clean abstract.
- Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
- Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre‑employment screening.
